Oklahoma City recently joined the NBA family with the relocation and rebranding of the Seattle Superonics. Now known as The Thunder, the team plays its 41 home games in the heart of our home town.

In light of this event, American Way magazine has showcased the city in two separate articles across its last two issues. The first article, in its February 1st issue, includes “what to do and see” recommendations from several local personalities including civic leaders, business owners, and media. From French bistros to dive bars and “cowboy museums” to crew style rowing, the list of recommendations provides a great cross section of the varied cultural and lifestyle attractions available in the city.

Which brings us to Linda Cavanaugh, a long time resident and Oklahoma City media personality who serves as an anchor on KFOR-TV’s news channel 4 . When it comes to western wear, Linda proclaims “Langston’s is it.” Specifically, she is directing readers to our Stockyards City store, which is just a short drive or trolley ride from downtown where the Thunder plays their home games at the Ford Center. Located in a historically renovated building, the store serves as both a retail store and tourist attraction. With many western themed businesses in the Stockyards, run by skilled craftsman with a passion for western culture and lifestyle, Stockyards City is actually a great place for all things western.

For a more in depth look at the NBA in Oklahoma City, the latest issue of American Way magazine contrasts the NBA’s newest venue with one of its most revered, New York’s Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks. Titled City Game, Cowboy Style, the piece is an enlightening and in depth look at two very different markets that are now linked by one great game. It certainly has convinced me to make sure I catch a game at the Garden soon, if for nothing else, for the hot dog on the way in. (Speaking of, anyone think we can get those guys at Coney Island on Main Street to open a stand outside the Ford Center?…)

It is time once again for People Magazine’s Style Issue. The October issue is packed with great tips for the Fall. There is also a buying guide for Breast Cancer Awareness you should check out towards the back. C.O Bigelow is making a lotion called Cancer Vixen. Their stuff is great – makes for very smooth skin. Ok wait….this is a clothing site huh? Ok, back to clothes. Wrangler is donating a portion of the proceeds from this Tough Enough shirt to Breast Cancer Research. Stylish, and it benefits cancer research. This could be the best $21.97 you spend all Fall!

Back to that style issue I was perusing the other day – the folks over at People list Levi’s® 524™ jeans as a great buy at under $50…in fact, they put the price tag at $40. Someone over there really needs to hit Langstons.com. Check out the huge variety of 524s™ at the Levi’s® Juniors section – and they are all under $30! And if you are wondering if the “boots over skinny jeans” look is still in for this Fall – yes, it is. There are many pics in this style issue showing it. Skinny and straight leg jeans both with boots, flats and heels. And still lots of bootleg jeans and boyfriend cut jeans too. So really, what I got out of this issue was that jeans are a mainstay for this fall YEAH!!! I love jeans.

A new magazine just recently started being published called Domino. It claims to be “The Guide to Living with Style.” And I have to say – it seems to be. They have great decorating articles as well as ones on fashion and just general style. I recommend that you check it out.

In August they sent a supplemental magazine out to subscribers. It was their Fall 2008 Fashion Rocks issue. There is a great article on Keith Urban in it and how he and Nicole Kidmantry and avoid the spot light as much as possible. I guess Nic had enough of that when she was with Tom Cruise. Keith talks about his personal style and how he doesn’t want it to get in the way of his music, or his life. He prefers to wear jeans, Levi’s ® 501 ® jeans to be exact, and a t-shirt. With new t-shirts on the site and new 501 styles on the way, we can help you get that Keith Urban look. Whether that lands you a Nicole Kidman, well, that’s up to you…

In this month’s InStyle Magazine they have an article that’s aim is to keep us “Fashionably On Point – anywhere at any age.” The article really does not tell me how to look great during my 18-month old’s gymnastics class while I chase him around in a warehouse that tops 100 degrees – but it does have some style points that are worth reading. Mostly I looked at the advice for when wearing jeans – and of course I looked at all the ages they listed.

I mean, I was 20 something, am now 30 something, will be 40 something one day – and was just amazed at how great Iman looks, so I looked at the 50 something page too. Let’s start there – once you get over the shock that Iman is really over 50, check out how sheik she looks in jeans! She paired Levi’s ® 518 ™ with a simple t-shirt and a structured blazer – and she looks amazing! This look works for any age. For a younger version, try wearing a printed T-shirt under the blazer – there are some new cute ones on our women’s shirts page that would work great.

Next we move to the 40 somethings. Carrie – uh, I mean Sarah Jessica Parker – is shown in skinny jeans. The advice is that you need to pair them with something more upscale. I don’t think we need to go as far as Manolo Blahniks, but if you have them – go for it!!! For the rest of us, heels and a nice blouse will do the trick. I might also try rockin these black Justin Punchy Boots with my skinny jeans. You can try these straight leg jeans and the rumor is that we will be getting some new skinny jeans from Levi’s ® soon.

30 somethings. This is where I fit in. Right next to Penelope Cruz. I tell you, we are like twins! This page suggests pairing jeans with something tailored and fitted for an overall sleek look. I agree that this is the way to go. At 17 jeans and a well worn sweatshirt worked – but these days that look just isn’t cutting it. I’d go with these Lucky Brand Classic Rider Jeans. Looks like there are some good sizes left and for $59.97, that’s not bad for some Lucky’s in real people sizes. Pair it with a simple fitted t-shirt or in the winter with a slim sweater and you too will look like Penelope….well – maybe not, but you will look put together.

And last, the 20 somethings. I think at 20 you can pretty much pull any of these looks off. In Style shows Sienna Miller in tomboy tough jeans and what they call “soft English Countryside” on top. Umm – ok. Really she is just in a tee, a cardigan and a very over sized scarf. She completes the look with ankle boots. I am not really sure who can pull this look off other than her – and honestly she is not really doing it either. But it does show that a good pair of jeans can work with anything!

Back in early June Country Weekly hosted their annual fashion show. Wrangler was one of the sponsors – which translated into lots of handsome men in perfect fitting jeans. Want to see for yourself? Check out these pics!
The Fashion Show benefited Musicians On Call, a great organization that delivers the healing powers of music to patients in need. I am positive music helps heal – but I think a hunk in some tight jeans would probably help me if I was ailing. Any of these great Wrangler Styleswould be perfect – add a shiny belt buckle, a hattipped just right and deep velvety voice – ah yes…I feel better all ready!

The August issue of Glamour Magazine is jam packed with advice about jeans. In one section they list the best selling jean in a few different cities. In St. Louis the best selling jean is the Sweet N Low by Lucky Jeans. I am a HUGE fan of these jeans. They sit low, but not too low. They have some flare at the bottom, but not too much. They really just fit well. They look equally good with a pair of your best boots as they do with a pair of comfy flip flops.

Anyway, the fact that this jean was listed was no surprise to me. What was a shocker was the price tag. It shows them at an average of $88!!! Hello???!?!?!? People? Welcome to Langston’s where you can buy them for $59.97! ($49.97 with coupon, just two days left!) Are you still reading this post or have you already jumped over to the Sweet and Low page…yeah – that was what I thought. Just leave me some in my size ok?

By the way, the rest of the Glamour article is good too – lots of ways to wear jeans, dress them up or down, different finishes and fits and even some care advice – although the advice is to not dry your jeans in the drier and I just can’t hang with that. I am a wash and dry kind of girl – and I have not seen any significant fade on my jeans from drying them.

A well worn pair of jeans…

I was reading an article at the doctor’s office a while back in some news magazine – an old issue of Newsweek I think. The interview was on George Clooney and it described him walking into the interview in a pair of well worn jeans and a t-shirt. Today I was reading in the July issue of Elle about Matthew Goode (an amazingly hot British actor – if you are not familiar with him you should be!) and it also described him arriving at the interview in a pair of well worn jeans – Levi’s® to be exact. This is a trend that I see all the time. It is just such a classic, timeless, sexy look – well worn jeans and a simple white, black or grey shirt. We see leading men all over Hollywood and beyond donning the look.

When did it all start? This classically sexy look? James Dean? He was the original bad boy in dusty, faded jeans and a white tee. The 80s brought us John Travolta in Urban Cowboy in his tight fitting dark washed jeans. The rappers in the 90s made baggy jeans with a bit of boxer top showing a staple in all magazines. Whatever decade it is, whatever style you lean towards – a pair of great fitting jeans and a simple tee shirt seems to always work as a classic go to look.

The site just added a special Levi’s® closeout 505® jean for just $29.97. I think it’s a great example of what I’m talking about. The fit is as classic as it gets: more or less a 501® with a zipper. The finish looks like this has been your favorite jean for years.

Finally – style advice from a celeb that does not break the bank. In this month’s Lucky Magazine Zooey Deschanel admits that she never got into the designer jean craze. She prefers Levi’s® – which are affordable and fit great. Now here’s a celebrity I can actually relate to! Granted, she is still pairing them with tops that will break the bank – but at least part of the outfit is in my range. Her jeans of choice are Levi’s® 501s®.

Zooey shares with readers her love of pastel blouses with lots of ruffles. The shirts shown look great – but they are very feminine and might need a simple pant to even it out. The boyfriend jean that Zooey wears off-sets the soft flowing tops perfectly. Pair a pastel top with the darker finish to really highlight the blouse for an evening look or choose a lighter finish for an overall fresh and summery look. She also mentions that she likes to pair a colored slip or cami under dresses or sheer shirts. I think a bright cami peaking out from a white button up shirt over jeans would be the perfect look for a night out – say to the movies…like to see The Happening. No spoilers on this site, but I will tell you this – no dancing from Marky Mark, and no singing either. I feel gypped. Levi’s® 501® jeans, as well as many other Levi’s® jeans, are available online.
